This summer our Rotary club was asked to help do a little painting at the Haines Street cottages for the indigent. As I wielded my brush I noticed the residents of the cottages (most at least three decades younger than I) standing by smoking and chatting. In answer to my query, the OLYCAP supervisor standing by said that they couldn't ask them to help, that they might fall off the ladder and sue. It doesn't seem rational to me to assume these folks are helpless. Surely there is some way to enlist them in The Show (as described in our September 2017 newsletter). We are all in this together, even though we have very different characteristics. Surely we can conjoin the responsibility chant of the Republicans with the compassion call of the Democrats. Do you see a way forward?
