Lab Tests You Order Yourself
According to Washington State law any person can order laboratory testing on themselves. Self-testing is becoming much more prevalent and includes
- laboratory-based services
- machines to measure blood sugar at home
- test kits for pregnancy, etc in pharmacies and over the internet
There are pitfalls to ordering and interpreting laboratory tests on yourself. We have a waiver which outlines these pitfalls and which you must sign before obtaining such tests.
Here is our list of most commonly requested tests and their prices.
Points you should know:
- Tests available include throat culture, cholesterol profile, HIV,
chemistry panel, urine culture, blood type, urine drug screen and
many others.
- If you have made arrangements with a laboratory that we do not ordinarily
deal with, you can bring in their test kit for us to process for you.
- You must sign a release form.
- Your insurance company will not pay for tests you order yourself.
- Conventional laboratory tests are usually done at a major reference
lab in Seattle. This gives more accurate results and is most cost-effective
for you. Other tests are sent to specialized laboratories.
- Payment for blood draw and specimen handling must be made at time
of service.
- Most conventional test results are available the next working day.
- We will give you a receipt but will complete no forms for insurance
companies.
