They say…
Everyone will be required to participate
Diagnostic and treatment procedures will be set by a central authority
All of it can be paid for by administrative savings
We say…
Under this plan, medical care will be governed not by what works best for you, but by what satisfies
special-interest groups in Washington, D.C.
Medicare and Washington Basic Health promised full coverage for your doctor’s treatment without
hassle and with a hardly-noticeable tax bite. So will "Single-Payer" —at first.
If...
You like Medicare
You think Washington Basic Health has worked out great
The public school system seems to you a shining example of American ingenuity
then you’ll love Universal Health Care..
Government medicine may be different things to different people, but one thing it is, is welfare for doctors.
A guaranteed job, guaranteed pay. All the doctor gives up is their ability to care for each patient as their
knowledge and experience tells them is best for you.
I am not going to go into partnership with the government to provide your medical care. I did that for some
years and found it impossible. They give a subtle hint that
“We steal from the other guy and pass the benefits on to you.”
In my opinion…
The best way to provide care to those who cannot provide for themselves is a separate system, paid for by
we taxpayers, that
Is innovative in use of mid-level providers, education, prevention, and self-care
Is administered locally for greater efficiency
Asks for something back from the recipients of care, if only that they go to school or work so that they can
become self-sufficient
Is provided as a community service and not as a “right”
Is linked with counseling about lifestyle choices and consequences
Is coordinated with local charitable, service, and spiritual organizations
Is generous with those who have serious illnesses such as multiple sclerosis
